Silence and isolation works for me, but I understand I am in the minority... Are you someone who needs your headphones in? Or are your thoughts as entertaining to yourself as mine to me?
Hey Bec, I spend a lot of time on the road travelling around my region with work. I have a couple of programs on the radio that I find interesting and sometimes I will listen to a 5 minute news slot.
Mostly I enjoy the silence, like you, I’m quite entertained by my thoughts and conversation dialogues that I have with myself and God. I’m restored by the peace and quiet.
Great piece, Bec. I have to admit while I love silence, I do like the sound of rain. It makes me want to get cozy, maybe take a snooze. The older I get the more I appreciate the absence of sound and noise.
That scientific study! I definitely am not someone who has to be with music, podcast, ‘content’ all the time, but I also find it hard to just ‘be’. One of my favourite ‘quiet time’ activities is just watching people and making up stories about their lives - is this a form of meditation?? 😂
I like the quiet, too. And often use my noise cancelling headphones to just have quiet on a plane, rather than play music. If this is weird, let's be weirdos together!
Great post and food for thought. It has inspired me to write about my relationship with silence.
Thanks Della! Would love to read whatever you write! x
oh my i really related to your thought processes especially at the end, but I really just thoroughly enjoyed reading this piece and yes LIFE IS HARD x
Ah thank you! Isn’t it just. 🧡 always nice to know someone follows the same thought process- mine is a jungle I assume no one else understands! 😂

"restored by the peace" - I think that is totally it! thanks Jon, nice to hear from you!

LOVE the sound of rain -- it is something I have missed since living in an apartment - you don't hear it on the roof like you do in a home!

I can't tell if it is meditation or torture some times -- the characters currently living in my head are starting to take over!

Kindred spirits!
